8-years and How India ‘MODI’fied
Two-time elected PM, Modi has successfully completed 8-years in office. Entered into the Delhi political arena with a tag ‘The man who never lost an election,’ Modi maintained that winning streak till date. And the current opinion polls also show his growing popularity. What made Modi different from other politician is his immense confidence, corruption-free image and willingness to take risks. Though the man known for his uncompromising stand magnanimously accepted the reversal of ‘farm laws’ when it backfired. Considering the pros and cons of his 8-year long, eventful tenure, Modi achieved some of the stupendous tasks that are not even imagined by his counterparts. The abrogation of Article 370 & 35a to liberate Kashmir is one such arduous task. The Swachh Bharat Mission to clean the nation, enabling the poor people to get a bank account and also get the government benefits without any middleman, the pension scheme for the marginalized people, establishing mammoth infrastructure projects in North East and J&K are certainly noteworthy achievements of his career. When the Chinese forces encircle Galwan Valley, sending the troops to the front end, the Modi government valiantly defended nations’ territory against the aggressive Chinese. Another remarkable aspect his the swiftly conducted ‘surgical strike’ against the Pakistan-based terror groups, Modi sent a strong message to Pakistan, the India under his Government no longer expresses ‘Concern’ over the terrorists’ attacks, instead it will retaliate instantly. His look east policy helped India to increase the economic activities with its neighbours. The way that the Modi Government isolated Pakistan in the International arena is another laudable achievement in the diplomatic front. The Modi Government also passed the acid test of ‘COVID-19’ disaster management by vaccinating nearly 1 billion people with 1.92 billion shots within 24 months can be touted as the ‘task of the century.’
The long-list of achievements also contains some black marks. The handling of demonetization by the Modi government was considered one of the horrible endeavor where the people had to stand in a serpentine-queue to withdraw money from ATM created resentment across India. Rich or poor, everyone cursed Modi for this foolhardy show. That could’ve been handled smartly. Like the way, the farmer’s strike was handled by Modi government is also pathetic.
Considering the pros and cons, the overall score of Modi is pretty impressive. Still, he has to go a long way to generate enough employment in rural and urban India, build infrastructure across India, establish world class educational institutions and hospitals, modernize Indian railways and airports to elevate the human development index of India. The pending tasks are so huge, so is Modi’s track record.
