Watch and Ponder - A simple, 11 minute video about Technology's impact on Society
Here's a gem of a video that I stumbled upon this morning.
Although it is simple (devoid of techno jargon), it brings home some important issues that challenge today and tomorrow's global society.
It is well worth the 11 minutes it takes to watch this video. My first-thought, bullet format musings are presented afterwards.
"The Rise of the Machines – Why Automation is Different this Time"
Post Video, First-Thought Musings in Bullet Format
- It's no surprise to me why Silcon valley is Pro-Universal Basic Income.
- Big Data will only get bigger and be needed more.
- Approaching Von Neuman's concept of "machines building machines" (originally presented as a way to produce oxygen for Mars colonization).
- Redefining or making the word "job" obsolete.
- Ray Kurzweil's exponential technology curve - Human linear thinking vs. technology's exponential advancement - (30 "doublings" or "exponential, N to the power of 2" steps = 1 billion).
- Diamandis' "Abundance and Demonitization of Everything" vs. an Orwellian/Terminator future.
- Musk's strategy for competing with AI (human/tech fusion).
- CRISPR. 'Nuff said!
Damn! Each one of those Bullet Musings deserves an article of its own, no?
(Maybe later...)
Would love to hear your opinions on the video or any of my first-thought, bullet format musings.

About the Author -
Believing that school was too boring, he dropped out of High School early; only to earn an AA, BS and MBA in less than 4 years much later in life – while working full-time as a Navy/Marine Corps Medic.
In spite of a fear of heights and deep water, he performed high altitude, free-fall parachute jumps and hazardous diving ops in deep, open ocean water.
After 24 years of active duty, he retired in Asia.
Since then, he's been a full-time, single papa and actively pursuing his varied passions (Writing, Disruptive Technology, Computer Science and Cryptocurrency - plus more hobbies too boring or bizarre for most folk).
He lives on an island paradise with his teenage daughter, long-term girlfriend and three dogs.
