Did you know that there are children who know much more about Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology than most adults? Here we show you some parents who are clear about the best education for their chicks.
Today's children will be responsible for coding tomorrow's applications. Are our children ready for cryptoeconomics? We analyze how new generations are hitting hard in a world where progress never stops.
Generally, the fry of the family come standard with the updated hardware. Linda Xie asked the crypto-parents on Twitter if they had educated their children on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, and what their reaction had been. The answers weren't long in coming.
Mairye replied: «When I was learning about bitcoin I watched documentaries, YouTube lectures/debates, listened to podcasts, etc. One day my 6 year old came up to me with his birthday money and asked “How much bitcoin can I get with this?” That’s when the next phase of his financial education began».
Children who teach their parents
Alva Cottingham, an engineer, affirmed that his children are teenagers and that they have been evangelizing for five years: «Used multisig wallets for school shopping. They could care less about crypto». NoteBlockchain replied, however, that he made his eleven-year-old son watch Andreas Antonopoulos' Youtube videos with him, while Mr. Bitty believes that there are actually more children teaching Bitcoin to their parents. Liesel, for his part, commented: «At 9, my daughter knows about saving. She is always asking: how is our crypto doing?».
For Allyn Reid, her family didn't need me to teach them. But ShillyTheKid goes even further: «Me daughter is 8. She plays AIRCOINS_App in the car and collects coins. She helped me build a mining rig. She knows about SATs, longs, shorts, and the importance of privacy and security. She will inherit SOoooO many dead shitcoins».
Faster than adults
Moreover, It's Rapids! recognized that theirs have cryptocurrencies that he bought for them, and that they ask daily how their investment is growing. Magdalena Ramada, however, doesn't stop there, claiming to have taught her two children, as well as giving various workshops and presentations in nursery and primary schools. «Children catch it much faster than some adults», she points out.
Matthew McGowan, in humorous terms, argued: «I just teach them to flush fiat currency down the toilette. They get the same lessons but it’s far less complicated».
The pay, in Bitcoin
Rex Nichols said: «I taught my teenagers to buy #BTC with earnings from their first jobs. I told them it was the riskiest investment they could make but they were young enough that if they go broke they have plenty of time to make up for it. The boy’s into it; the girl is skeptical».
CryptoCircus confirms he's working on it: «Keep asking if they want to be paid for chores in $BTC. Oldest is 15 lil one is 7. They both know all the catch phrases: hodl, fud, etc.».
Matt Corneau's little girl is 21 months old: «Steals Trezor out of my hand and yells: “MY COINS”. I guess she already gets the concept of “Not your keys, not your coins”».
«Two years ago my grade 7 & 9 boys wanted to build gaming computers. Me: OK, the computers can do a lot more for you than just gaming. I laid out three criteria: learn some coding, understand the hardware, learn about mining. Then we'll buy.
As far as coding they did the intro JavaScript course on Kahn Academy + a basics of networking. About 25hrs of learning. They wanted to leave a couple of hard lessons undone. Didn't let them, they persisted, found help online & got it done. Youngest now in a HS IB + CS academy
The oldest really got into hardware design & specs. He developed a G sheet with parts that met their budgets but realized prebuilt machines were a better value due to high cost of mining/gaming GPU's vs. buying individually. Bought, then customized w/ RAM + solid state drive.
They learned about mining, joined a pool and started mining $ETH which they calculated was most profitable at the time. Set them up w/paper wallets to start. So many lessons and discussions came out of this about crypto, storage, security, etc. Computers paid for themselves.
They were so proud of their accomplishment. Shared with all friends, explaining over & over how they were doing it to each & every family member that came over. Oldest one was impacted & is doing his senior IB EE (huge research project) on crypto disrupting gov fiat $».
Jack of Crypto
Children control their money
Jed Powers has two boys, 5 and 7 year old, and they are all Bitcoin miners. «They are excited to be part of a positive future where they control their own money. Already talking about making btc for doing chores».
Domingo Guerra asked his four-year-old eldest daughter what she wanted for her birthday, and without hesitation she said: «one bitcoin». Meanwhile, Scott Walker says his two daughters have been in this world since 2012, «and they really wish they kept their original allowance/paychecks».
Cretinous's offspring are also clear: «My kids both have multiple paper wallets and my daughter has a desktop wallet. They know about quite a few projects and see me working hard on my own!».
Billa Coetsee goes beyond practice and shows her sprouts a broader perspective. «We just teach our kids the basic principles of money and economics... Fiat, monopoly, crypto - same principles apply. Money is an expression of our productivity and means to exercise purchasing power. It’s about responsibility and autonomy».
Next steps
In case anyone hadn't noticed, kids run circles around us. What's next? Some are clear about it. According to Scott Sanderson, «next step is to pay their allowances through an Ethereum smart contract where my wife can check off completed chores on her phone and the contact will pay out to the kids. Better use a stable coin, they are too young to get rekt by a crypto bear market».
In short, the latest additions to the family have undoubtedly come to get our act together. The conversation was much more than that: if you are interested, you can follow it here. Let the old jobs begin to tremble, because the crypto children have arrived!
