X-Men: Dark Phoenix - Movie Review
Written & directed by Simon Kinberg, this is a direct sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) & is the 12th instalment in the X-Men film series; 7th & final version of the main X-Men series. The theme centres around one of X-Men’s characters, Jean Grey & the narration focuses on Grey’s powers while evolving into Dark Phoenix!
Sofia Turner is adequate as Grey. As usual the plot is set around a villain who wants to destroy the world!
The scene is set in the space where Grey gets hit by a mysterious cosmic energy which eventually initiates & heightens her powers!
But this transformation gets her into a different arena that is highly dangerous! She not only poses a threat to the family of X-Men but to humanity at large!
It is a question of choosing between saving her so as to save humanity!
Frankly, this last outing lacks in humanistic touch for which X-Men films are famous for!
The others in the cast as James Mc Avoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Laurence etc have done their parts with a lot of understanding but the final outcome of the films stays far from being satisfactory mainly owing to weak screenplay & unimaginative treatment!
The focus here is more on the characters while being less on the effects & action but even then the characterisations lack the much needed depth!
The score of Hans Zimmer is noteworthy.
Not a fitting farewell at all!
