Yup some time ago I read a Hartwin fanfic (Harry Hart/Eggsy Unwin - Kingsman fanfic) based on Pretty Woman. The fic was good, dialogue wonderful, and I put down Pretty Woman on my to-watch list.
And I finished it three minutes ago.
The movie was not what I expected. Okay since I don't want to prattle on about the imbalance of power in the film, neither the whitewashing of prostitutes and other controversial shit that I did not like, let's just get that out of the way. I did not like those parts. There, done.
And now to some more random shit I want to prattle about.
The movie was like one of the best romantic comedies I had watched. And I watched Mr. Right yesterday, which means I get to compare.
Personally I like Mr. Right more, because it was very my taste, with the mindless action and the ah fuck it of the heroine, but I see so many parallels from Pretty Woman to Kingsman which is eerie, since Kingsman is not a love story.
But still. Fanfiction has contorted the movie.
Anyway, Richard Gere, who I didn't even know existed before I watched the film, and Julia Roberts, who is incredibly hot, are so compatible together in the movie. Edward's stoic amusement to Vivian's blatant and honest self, is again, so similar to Kingsman.
I mean, I don't want to keep talking about Hartwin since it's only a fanfic and the age gap and everything is quite evil, but I searched it up, and Richard Gere is 18 bloody years older than Julia Roberts. Like...what?
But it's so bloody familiar! Pretty woman is Kingsman without the spys and with sex!
...And I cannot kinda believe I wrote that sentence.
It's so sad that I don't have any movie geeks around me. Or I would be rambling about this for the next week.
But anyhoo, returning to my non-existent point, my point is that...um, the movie was great, Viv and Ed's dialogue is more than great, and if there was no sex in this, it would have been quite literally a disney picture. Or a Kingsman. Or, I dunno, a Kingsman fanfic.
I swear, the writer of Kingsman wanted to write a film like Pretty Woman but since they didn't want it to be a rip-off they just went with the most faraway concept as possible-secret agency- and decided to keep out the love story. That is what Kingsman is.
Am I the only one who is mind-gobbled by this?
Anyway, I would like to recommend to anyone who is reading this brain fart to watch Mr. Right. That's the movie I watched yesterday, and made me go ooh sam rockwell is kinda really hot and anna kendrick is so cute and-i like turtles you bitch!
It's an action movie where the guy is a serial killer and the girl just goes ah fuck it i like him and becomes a serial killer as well. I know, it sounds very stupid on paper but it's very underrated and very very hilarious.
And bloody watch Kingsman if you haven't. And read some fanfiction.
