The news media is concerned about how the newsrooms will secure their revenues as are mostly engaged with covering the pandemic.
I guess we all want to return to the more-or-less 'predictable' past... No matter if there media looks very much like the mouse that has chosen to stay with the room that once was full of cheese... We want to return to the past where 99% of all 200 M active websites and blogs (~30+% of all), producing most of the content that is consumed for free, earn less than $60 per year on average.
Now more then ever we can see how being a true owner of our destiny lands us with right people in the governments that work as real representatives of the people and thus not afraid of action, and those that came to power much because we were lazy to take ownership and rather let others do the work - so they take advantage of any 'arbitrage' to stay and exercise power...
The revenue that current media produces is not enough for the most: people usually do not invest where there are 'natural' monopolies, so the pot will get smaller and smaller. Maybe it is the time to think about the new media and the new economy?
Maybe it is the right time to start thinking and acting differently, time to mobilize, and start working, start becoming true "citizens" of media, becoming the true owners of the web? Time for the new digital economy?
