Shortage and Destruction of the life-source Water
by W. Stauber
Many waters are polluted with poisons,
the rain itself already carries with it the death;
but the human being besmirches his/her world always further,
he/she adheres to no law of the nature.
His/Her love is withered
to everything that lives there with him/her;
only after the fulfillment of his/her ausgeareten drives,
appears the fulfillment after which he/she strives.
That all life around him/her which that first makes his/hers possible,
whose appearance itself he/she is still not him/herself conscious;
only of him/herself and his/her greed obsesses,
spits he/she also him/herself furthermore into one's own food.
Already since all times the life of the human beings is bound to the water. For this reason he/she always settled at springs, creeks, rivers, lakes and streams. The water was precious to the human beings not just only in order to quench his/her thirst, but rather it served to him/her also for the preparation of his/her meals, for the cleaning of his/her home and his/her body as well as for the recovery, refreshment and delectation of his/her body and his/her psyche. In the course of time the human being learned, to gain the water also from draw-wells, etc., and he/she learned to use these, in order to provide to service-water-wells and thereby irrigation of plants. With such facilities he/she could water his/her fields and thereby generate greater harvests, and likewise provided itself to him/her through these abilities also the possibility, to move far away from surface waters, to settle dry areas. The rivers, lakes, streams and seas formed with the time also natural travel-ways, which the human being him/herself opened up and made it possible for him/her, to transport greater amounts of goods of all kinds faster than on the overland route; to trade with faraway lands and across overseas deal, to travel to and inquire into and settle in foreign areas. With the time the human beings also learned to use the power of the water, built water-wheel-claimant mills and factories at rivers and channels specifically provided for this, and eventually he/she also found out, how he/she could create current (electricity) with the help of water power. Not last to come however the waters of the Earth contained outrageous riches of life forms; and this sheer abundance to be to the human beings a never drying up source of his/her nourishment.
Where there is no water, there also is no life. No life form, be it now human being, plant or animal, is able to live without water. And everything which crawls and flies here on mother Earth, consists of more or less a good part water; thus the essential water is also more than two thirds constituent part of the human body. Without water no blood could flow in our veins, no nutritional substance could reach into the cells of our body and no waste substance these again leave. The human beings are, like all others life forms, bound into the natural cycle of the water. Through seed-drinks and firm nourishment the human being takes liquid into him/herself and again separates this out in the form of urine and sweat, in smaller amounts also through the respiration and the feces. As more of the truth reveals itself of this to the human beings, that he/she is a fixed part of nature and it is impossible for him/her, to escape the natural laws. The human being that does not take liquid to him/herself, then he/she miserably dies of thirst after 5 to 6 days. Water is thus a fundamental factor for our terrestrial life and should to us therefore be the more precious than all the treasures of the world.
If one looked at the blue face of the Earth from the outside, it would be difficult to believe, that the supply of water is always more challenging for the human beings. A good two thirds of the earth's surface is covered with water. Around 97% of this water however is saline and forms the seas (oceans). The sea water can indeed through specific technical facilities be desalinated and converted into fresh water, but the energy expenditure for such procedures is enormous, and the costs for it are accordingly high. The greatest part the remaining 3% of fresh water is stored in frozen state at the North and South Poles as well as in the numerous glaciers, which one finds everywhere on the Earth in colder and higher locations. Which for the human beings amounts to around 0.3% of useable portion of the water. This of the entirety would be seen as a small quantity of water for the human beings however always still more than enough, if there would not be the population explosion and its effects. One can neither conjure up water nor is it increasable, because only a certain amount of it exists, and is found in the continuous cycle of precipitation and evaporation as well as of freezing, melting, runoff and consumption.
Through the immense pollution and poisoning of all waters caused by the human beings however and through the continuously rising need of water through the unstoppable growth of the overpopulation, the Earth citizen him/herself makes it more difficult always more the for him/her life-essential supply of clean use-water and drinking-water. Making it worse comes also still moreover, that itself, as the result of the global climate change, which is caused through air pollution and nature destruction etc., in many areas of the Earth the amounts of precipitation are reduced or even entirely absent, while in other places it causes devastating floods and destructive catastrophes, cost many human lives, kill animals and eliminate everything.
Always more human beings mean always more households, always more industry and always more agriculture, therefore also always more greater the waste water and will be more detrimental, that in addition are fraught with disease-causing and deadlier substances. The nature is no longer able to master these enormous amounts of pollutants, which the human beings produce and consciencelessly guide into the waters. The Earth can feed around 529 million human beings, without actually taking on any form of damage to itself. If the waters were spared from all the great amounts of poisonous chemicals, then the waste water of an environmentally bearable number of human beings for the self-purification power of the water, would not be a problem. The human beings held and holds themselves not to the laws of equilibrium (balance), increased themselves and furthermore immoderately increasing themselves, up to the eliminating factor for the entire environment and for themselves and for all life. Through the insanity of overpopulation the state of our waters itself is made worse in thus devastating wise, which some lakes already in the life must artificially be preserved, which is said to be, that oxygen must be supplied to them, in order to guard them from upsetting and dying. The so-called upsetting comes about, when through great pollution of the water, as e.g. through fertilizers, industrial waste water, cleaning- and washing-agents, feces etc., the phosphate content etc. exceeds the water's natural level, which leads to an uncontrolled alga growth and to the rot. When these algae then die, they will be reduced by an army by micro-organisms, however the oxygen is required for this process, which thereby inevitably is withdrawn from the lake. Therefore it comes to the acute oxygen deficiency in the water, which upsets the biological equilibrium, the fish choke and the lake becomes the stinking, putrefying sludge. In many places the pollution of the water is to such a terrible extent, that one after a bath in such sewers must not him/herself be amazed over skin rashes and worse. Thus one is always more often compelled to close swimming beaches, because the poisons contained in the water present already mentioned severe health-endangering, indeed even life-threatening concentrations. The impetuous growth of the world population bears to it, that always more wetland areas are drained, rivers straightened, dams established and streams and springs moved in pipes. Alluvial-forests and marshy-landscapes disappeared and made room for monotonous agrarian- and concrete-surfaces etc. and always becoming greater settlements and cities. Not only disappear therefore a rich fauna and flora, but rather one robbed the water also of its self-purification- and self-regulation-mechanisms.
The water pollution yet already begins through the rain cleaning the air, because due to the terrible pollution of our atmosphere so many poisons reach into the soil and into waters. This so-called acid rain does not only work on destroying the biological processes in the soil, but rather it lets acidify also springs, creeks, rivers and lakes. To the human eye appear then such over-acidified waters as clear and clean, in truth however they are dead and hardly still contain life. However not only the poisonous substances in the air reach with the help of the rain into our waters, but rather also the entire chemistry, that the agriculture sprays over the fields, so therefore all other kinds of plant protection agents, weed controllers, insect destruction means etc., and so forth.
Likewise through the rain enormous amounts of nitrogen compounds and phosphates from the totally over-fertilized fields will be flushed into the rivers and lakes, which, as already explained, leads to excessive growth of algae etc., whereby ultimately in the ending effect, the oxygen balance of the waters is disrupted.
The filth-floods of the always greater becoming cities, villages and settlements etc. and the often severely polluted waste-water of the industries, that legally and illegally will be passed into the cycle of the water, cause many waters to become poisonous broths and deadly sewers, in which fish, if they do not yet already drift dead in the waves, can still only lead to a life of disease and lingering illness.
Also the enormous seas become sick at an increasing rate. No more only the coastal regions alone suffer under greater pollution, but rather also the high-seas build up with always more dangerous substances, whereby always more enormous amounts of poisons pour into the sea, on the one hand through the numerous creeks, rivers and streams, that would carry with itself, the entire civilization's filth, on the other hand however also through enormous amounts of oil, which from oil tankers through the release of ballast water and with tank cleaning etc., reach into the sea. Devastating oil contamination comes about however also through damages at offshore drilling platforms and through tanker accidents. Also the feces of millions of ship travelers as well as rubbish, toxic waste of all kinds, the dumping at sea of chemicals, sewage sludge and other volatile substances and the burning of chemical waste on ships contribute in the most terrible form to the water poisoning. (Under dumping at sea one understands that on ships is conducted the instillation of waste materials into the sea. Firm waste materials will be dumped into the sea through the opening of hopper barges; liquid substances will be let in the propeller area of the ship in the sea, where they immediately mix themselves, through the rotation of the propellers, with the water.) The human being also does not shy him/herself away from, dumping radioactive waste into the sea and conducting underwater atomic-bomb tests, nevertheless he/she precisely knows, that the radioactive radiation thus in stepping into appearance leads to the deadly effects for all life. Not lastly however also many poisonous substances will be taken in by the sea from the greatly polluted atmosphere. With cognizance of all the precise facts mentioned one is really not him/herself amazed anymore over the daily terrible news casts such as dying seals, dying fish, seaweed plague, contamination of beaches, shrinking variety of sea animal and plants etc., and so forth. However also the human being does not remain spared from the poison substances lying in wait in the water, since those serving as nourishment to him/her fish, crabs, muscles etc. the pollutants gather in those across the food chain as well as by way of skin and respiration, whereby they become poisoned and sick.
Every cause has its effect, and since nature and all life-forms embody an entirety, any action directed against this oneness always corresponds to a self-damage.
Many environmentalists and environmental organizations indicate responsible leaders of the states thereupon, finally to act and to fight not only the symptoms of the water-pollution, but rather above all their causes. As cause for the pollution first and foremost the industries will be named, which through their own waste water, as however also through the products, that they produce, which greatly burden the waters of our Earth; as a further great polluter applies however also the agriculture. Unfortunately most conservationists do not consider, that the actual cause for the catastrophic environmental pollution is the overpopulation. The humankind, which increases at a more explosive speed and must be provided with nourishment and all other vitally necessities, compels the industries and the agriculture to maximum capacities. Thus the greatest possible harvests from our fields, is generated with the addition of very much fertilizer and the application of herbicides and pesticides etc. To provide the rapidly increasing humankind however only with the food, which will be produced from purely biological cultivation, is simply becoming impossible. More human beings require more medicines, energy, living space, nourishment and above all is not to be overlooked, that many poisonous substances and means of all kinds are required, like more cleaning agents, dyes and plastic-products etc., and so forth, in order to count only a few small things, which itself with their creation, use and disposal in extremely dangerous wise have an effect on the quality of the vitally necessary water. Also with the so-called biological means, as many of them are touted nowadays, the water pollution is not simply brought to an end, since on the one hand EVERYTHING works detrimental and destroying, which in the excess is released into the environment, and on the other hand the few progresses, which one could achieve by pollution free products and purification plants for some few waters, will again be rendered void through the continuously increasing population and as a consequence the rising water pollution.
All the toxic substances in all standing and flowing waters honestly now does not remain simply in the surface water, but rather a great number for the human beings extremely dangerous to health and themselves often only over very long time degrading poisons, as e.g. heavy metals and chlorinated hydrocarbons, then seep through waters beds and riparian strata into the underground and reaching therefore into our groundwater. To the contamination of the underground water-stores contribute however also that of the soil penetrating poisons of the garbage dumps as well as from the rain acidified spring water.
Also tons of the pesticides sprayed over the fields etc. and the nitrates contained in the fertilizers and other substances from the soil layers cannot completely be absorbed and consequently penetrate likewise into the groundwater. Itself with the most progressive technology it is today no longer possible, to analyze all the many chemical substances contained in the water. From some of these chemicals one indeed knows, that they lead to carcinogenic, life-teratogenic and mutagenic effects in the human organism; which however unexplored is the short- or long-term damages of all the other countless and released on nature chemicals in the environment and produced in the life. Despite which in purification plants (when actually existing) is conducted mechanical, biological and chemical purification and the subsequent filtration of the waste water, and despite the additional processing of drinking water through chlorination and other procedures, there from the facets flowing and to us clear appearing water is often a wolf in the sheep's clothing. Always more often well facilities must be closed because of too high poison concentrations and one is compelled, when no other wellsprings can be tapped, to bring clean water here with tank cars. It is thus indeed to appear in the future, and in many places this is already the case, that to some extent quite safe drinking water can only still be obtained in bottles.
Increasingly the water pollution leads to that, which always less human beings can be provided with clean drinking water, in the first place the reason for this, will be because always more human beings are born, who require water and this again pollute. However alarming is not only the always more worse becoming quality of the drinking water, but rather also in many areas of the Earth the already shrinking quantity of the useable waters overall. The enormous increase in population leads logically to the always greater becoming water consumption. Just imagine the megacities that are bursting from all seams, in which the thirst of the human beings is sheer insatiable. Large-scale consumers of the waters are above all the agriculture and the industry, however also households and small business establishments are enormous water-gulpers. The greatest part of the fresh water is used for the irrigation of the fields and gardens as well as for the 'vehicle washing'. Especially the poor countries often have a very dry climate and suffer under long times of drought, and precisely they are those also, who have to record the greatest and highest increase in the population-growth-rates. As a result they are also forced, to water always larger surfaces of their country, in order for nourishment to sprout from this and to let grow, in order to be able even to some extent satisfy the growing hunger of the population with it.
For this reason they plunder from their rivers, lakes and their groundwater, with the outcome, that the ground-water levels always continue to drop and thereby the otherwise already meager vegetation still becomes more desolate and deserts result. Also the irrigation of fields in dry warm areas often ultimately furthers the desertification, due to an increasing salinization of the soils. One such salinization occurs on the one hand through the minerals contained in the sprinkling water as well as through salts in the soil itself, which itself through constant sprinkling dissolves and then comes to the surface with the evaporation. Overgrazing of grassland, the deforestation of forests and the excessive use of the soils lead likewise to the dehydration and erosion of the land. Also through the merciless clearing of forests their water reservoir capability gets lost, which with great rainfalls leads to devastating floods. Likewise an effect of the forest elimination is, that wellsprings, creeks and rivers quickly again dry out, since they are not any longer fed by the water stored in the forest soil, because the forests are even destroyed and eliminated.
Previously only a few human beings lived, mostly small nomad tribes, in the meager areas of the Earth. These indeed lead no life in the lap of luxury, however the existing water and the meager vegetation was fully sufficient for them, in order to be able to live in good, adequate form. With the growth of smaller and larger settlements in the arid-regions, great centers of concentration grew up, whereby and by which the water requirement immoderately rose. Naturally thereby the ground-water level sank. Thus it comes, that today large cities master the Earth, under those the groundwater level annually sinks around a meter (3.28 feet) and more. One other consequence of these destructions created by the human beings is a subsidence of the soil (land), indeed the entire ground, which itself logically has an effect of destroying the urban roads and buildings etc. The predatory exploitation of water resources goes however always further, and the human being already in the course of this, slowly but surely pumps dry the thousands of years old underground water veins. The water scarcity in many cities and areas compels increases for this by the human beings, to build long-distance pipelines and channels, in order for the missing, precious and life-essential water to come. The result of such projects however is, that also the water from farther wellsprings, creeks, rivers and lakes is slowly but surely taken away.
In order for the increasing hunger, the thirst and all other requirements of the rapidly increasing population to be right, numerous dams were and will be built everywhere on the world. On the one hand these should serve the generation of current (electricity) and on the other hand enormous water reservoirs will be created through the damming. These in turn should cover the human beings' rising need of use- and drinking-water and will be put in place for the irrigation of the great land surfaces, that serve for the food production or the recreational enjoyment. Also it is erroneously hoped, that the always recurring floods will be brought under control by the dams. It is thereby however not considered, that the periodical flood of the river bottom of mud liberate and sliding rubble released and carry into the reservoir and fill this up, together with the nutrient-rich substances, that itself no more distribute over the flooded land and the vegetation growing there can no longer serve as fertilizers. Now the actual valueful nutrients remain to lie in the mud and sliding rubble of the reservoir and senselessly fill this up. The building of the dams lead also to it, that upstream many good and fruitful fields were flooded and numerous human beings were robbed of their existence. The great surface irrigations with waters from the reservoirs brought indeed short term successes, longer term however the massive irrigation of the soils leads thereby to salinizing of the great land surfaces or through alkalization and overwatering damages as well as for the cultivation of foods that will be useless. It is unknown to most human beings also, that the enormous weights of the masses of water of greater reservoirs exerts enormous pressure on the ground plates, which can lead to tectonic changes and from this to resulting earthquakes.
Through the building of the dams can therefore neither the continuously increasing need at nourishment be secured, nor can thereby that itself from the difficulties resulting from overpopulation be resolved, on the contrary; It appeared and will appear to the human beings through the reservoirs many additional problems.
Not only in the lands of light precipitation ticks the water time-bomb, however these states with the continuously rising population will be the first, that already very soon will be sitting dry. People migrations of enormous extent threaten, and yet now already millions of human beings leave because of chronic water shortages and increasing devastation of their ancestral homeland. Here however also in all other areas, cities and countries overpopulation runs rampant, come upon the refugees where most only a life, that in misery and hardship ends.
Through the many immigrants will be the still terrible and inseparable prevailing problems such as nature destruction, energy shortage, plagues, illness, war, torture, poverty, hunger, unemployment, criminality, prostitution and Ausartungen etc., and so forth. Fights with the often different-minded and different-believing newcomers become unavoidable, and the threats, which in the closeness drives human beings and states to take hold of the weapons and attack on the other, rises from day to day. Conflicts and wars are inevitable especially in those regions, where rivers flow through several countries, the sheer life of countless millions of human beings often hangs in their water as well as often also the functioning of the entire economy of a country. By the states, that lie upstream, too much of the precious water is drawn off, then left over logically to the states that lie downstream, always less and always dirtier water remains. Also there increases itself intensifying the situation through the groundless increase in population, thus it comes to dangerous tensions between the states.
Always more human beings must themselves share the always limited and dirty becoming waters, whereby the effects of it are disease and epidemics. Already today around the turn of the third millennium about two thousand-million human beings live in areas of the Earth with continuous water shortages, and one estimates, that approximately half of the humankind suffer under diseases and epidemics, that were transferred or triggered by contaminated water. Water, that actually should have a purging, enlivening, health-promoting and purifying effect on the human organism, itself transforms from the wellspring of the life always more to the wellspring of suffering and death.
The contamination and shortage of the water sets before us human beings inseparable problems, if we do not finally let rationality prevail and us be conscious of the responsibility toward ourselves and in relation to all life and to act accordingly. We all are undeniably part of nature, because due only to it we are able to breathe, to take nourishment to ourselves, to grow and to develop ourselves. No matter which religions we belong to and to no matter what views of life we advocated; we all have the same demand, to quench our thirst, and we all are in every wise and without exception dependent on the gifts of our planet. If we desire ourselves the water facet not to close itself, then we must do everything conceivable, in order to command to stop the worldwide plundering and poisoning of waters. Recovery can only be brought by a reduction of the humankind to a nature-bearable amount; that alone namely would make possible for human beings, animals and plants to again have a healthy and free life, that lacks nothing. The human being continues to go however in the same style, without meeting any measures against the horrendous increase of its species, therefore the destruction of nature unstoppably will advance and ecological equilibrium will completely unravel. One need not be a prophet and not a scientist, in order to see, that the human being in a terrible time of the natural disasters, the climate changes, the hunger, the diseases and the wars drives. If the human being determines him/herself now not to volunteer for a global regulation and reduction of the births for the benefit of all life, then the happenings of the coming time will force him/her to it. It would be far more painless for the human beings in any case, if he/she were to choose the rationality to be the leader of his life, than to constantly offend against the natural order.
