Despite what various authorities claimed, heaven had very little to say on the subject of sodomy or homosexuality in general. Love was love, after all, but that’s what you got when you based a religion on a translation of a translation of a disputed translation.
Let's start off with wonderful line from a Good Omens fanfic*, which made me actually sigh with content. Fanfiction writers are amazing, and this one more so, because I think it blatantly points about the absurdness of religious people who hates the LGBTQ community.
Love is love. Like, why can't two responsible adults fall in love and get married and have babies? Just because they can't biologically make babies? Does that mean that they are not fit to raise babies, when they are just two ordinary people that has all the ordinary aspects of life, but just happens to love same gender-ed people?
I went to a cathedral once, but stopped, out of both laziness and annoyance because the place was so...stupid. I'm not meaning to insult whoever your Gods are, but the place I went to, was incredibly so. Once they held a campaign so people could collect signatures to ban abortion. My mom signed, liked some neanderthal. A woman held out the paperwork to me, and I refused, and my mom was like "She's young," blah blah blah.
I told my mom off for that, but Korean people have a lot of stereotypes-which I'll like to talk more about later- so she's still coming around, still having a slightly hard time accepting sexual minorities and other modern stuff like that.
Anyway, one time since my mom is still a devoted believer, I had to wait in the cathedral offices for her. And since I was very curious, and not understanding the thoughts of homophobic people, I blurted out "Why are gays bad?"
The office worker, who was a very nice person, who I had had various conversations with throughout several years I went there, stared at me.
And she said, not even blinking, gays just have a mental disease, that's what makes them gay. And they are only gay to gain sexual pleasure from other males.
I was stunned. And had a million clever comebacks on my tongue.
But since I knew whatever I said wouldn't change her thoughts, or anyone else's in that cathedral, I just walked out of there, head held high, never to return.
If loving the same gender was a mental disease, why do the rest of the modern world accept them, lets them get married? Like, dude, look at America. Or UN. Or UK. Anywhere you think is a developed nation. What, is US infiltrated with crazy gays?
Also, being LGBTQ doesn't mean that you have a mental disease, for fuck's sake. Oscar Wilde, Alexander the Great, Hatshepsut, Leonardo Da Vinci, Alan Turing, Michaelango, the list goes on and on. They are all sexual minorities, that have brought many amazing changes to our history. Certainly a bigger change than that office worker, or any other homophobic people that still exists today.
So, can we just pass all those people-highly educated, genius, amazing- off as all just having mental diseases?
And bloody sexual pleasure?
That is wrong on so many levels that I cannot even find the words to start, but I will, because I am bi and not insane.
LGBTQ people are not animals. They don't have ruts, or whatever religious idiots think they do. They're normal people, who want romance and adventure and have dreams. They don't want mindless sex, as any much as straight people do-I don't actually know if people want mindless sex since I don't, but I assume they don't?- and that's so easy to see.
Like, if LGBTQ community just wanted sex, why would they want to get married? Wouldn't it be better for them to not settle down, and have much sex as possible? (I do know that this sounds incredibly stupid, but that office worker said so, so I'm trying to ignore that. Don't hate me.)
They want to get married, because they're in love. Because they want a loving family, maybe some children, and a spouse they are attracted to, and love. And I don't see why that's such a problem.
In Sapiens by Yuval Harari, he makes a great point for the people who say sodomy is not natural, and is evil. If it is not natural, then why is it possible in the first place? Who decides if things are natural, but the actual nature and our biology? If it is evil, then why has your God made it possible in the first place? (He phrases it much better but since I'm not a genius like him, bare with me. Or read the book.)
LGBTQ has had to deal with all those stupid and crazy and just simply absurd stereotypes throughout their entire lives, and it is only recently that views have started to change. As a Generation Z, I know that I haven't even been through the worse that the older generations-who have had to hide who they are, or risk their lives- have been through.
And even then, I have read a million articles and lines talking about how disgusting gay people are in Korean since the anti-discrimination law hasn't passed here.
I have had to read the thoughts of people who hates me and my sexuality and isn't afraid to say so. So I only think its fitting for them to read my thoughts in return now, and actually see sense.
Because, well, people like me are not going to stand in the shadows and accept their hate any longer. We are going to fight, and we are going to do it well, so the children of our generation and their children won't have to go through the same thing, the turmoil and the confusion and the loneliness.
This is LGBTQ in my mind, and I hope you understand.
And if you don't, well, I look forward to meeting you and changing your mind.
*The upper-mentioned fanfic is get religion quick (cause you're looking divine) by brinnanza, in AO3. Brilliant fic. Well, Good Omens is so brilliant that any work that aspires from it is also really brilliant.
