British girl Madeleine MacCann disappeared on the night of 3rd of May of 2007 . She was on vacation at a resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, with her parents Kate and Gerry and her twin brothers, Sean and Amelie. The family was at the resort with other friends, some of them also with their children and each family was in an apartment. The friends named by the press as "tapas seven", because these were seven people, plus Kate and Gerry, and the tapas were the name of the restaurant.
The parents had dinner every day from 8:00 pm with his friends leaving their children sleeping in the apartments. But still, for half an hour, the children went round to see them. At 9:00 pm Gerry MacCann, Madeleine's father went and saw nothing strange, later it was the turn of another friend: Jane Tanner and she said she saw a man in the arms with a child, wearing a pajamas similar to Madeleine's (affirmation that Madeleine disappeared and then gave it to Tanner) but he didn't mind it and went back to the restaurant without saying anything.
An Irish family named Smith also claimed to have seen a man but in this case a different man. These are portrait robots made by the police of himself:
But they never found that man. At 10pm Kate MacCann's turn came and when she arrived at her children's bedroom she found her window open and Madeleine was no longer in her bed. Kate then returned "worried" to the restaurant, saying: "Madeleine has not been taken away."
The case was brought by the Portuguese judicial police in the first 5 months, led by Detective Gonçalo Amaral. In this investigation, the parents were considered "negligent" for leaving their children alone for so long in the apartment, with them being young.
The different theories of the case:
The first theory states that Madeleine MaCann is the author of her disappearance, according to this theory, she left the apartment alone in search of her parents and went downstairs and lost track of her.
The second is about a man seen by the Smith family mentioned earlier, forensics said that the man was probably a pedophile who kidnapped Madeleine, possibly a member of a child trafficking network, for the purpose of child pornography.
The third speaks of a misdemeanor burglary, according to a criminologist who investigated the crime scene at the apartment where a thief entered the apartment, then Madeleine suddenly woke up with the noise and then the thief took her and took her away to report him. Criminologists also said that a few days earlier, two other apartments in the resort had been stolen and the window was left open, as in this case.
The fourth theory is that the parents are suspicious because after 3 months the child disappeared, 2 dogs from the police, and the MacCann family, 25 days after the disappearance, went to investigate the rental car and found human blood and body odor, along with it. even in Madeleine's hair fibers. These findings were investigated in the lab and matched to the child's DNA, which was then reported by the police as a major suspect in her daughter's disappearance. But they were then released without charge because there was insufficient evidence to judge them.
On the other hand, some members of the MacCann family noted that parents (both physicians) were given anxiolytic drugs to sleep on their children so that they would not wake up while their parents were having dinner. And it should be mentioned that traces of this medication were found in the child's hair fibers. Detective Gonçalo Amaral's theory is that as a result of an over-the-counter medication Madeleine died on the night of her disappearance, Amaral told that the child had fallen to the ground in disorientation and her parents had evacuated the corpse.
The MacCans pressured to remove Amaral from his charge for pleading them guilty, and he was removed. In 2008, the Portuguese police closed the case, but in 2012 the parents asked the British police (Scothland Yard) to reopen. But the disappearance of Madeleine MacCann remains a mystery after nearly 13 years.
