Editorial : European Court of Justice delivers a landmark judgement
In a landmark ruling, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) strikes down the EU-US Privacy Shield Agreement to assert its stand in favour of protecting the privacy rights of EU citizen. The Austrian writer, lawyer and privacy activist Max Schrems played a crucial role to blow-up this issue. He already had a reputation of going against the tech giant Facebook’s questionable data practices to protect the European privacy laws. After the Amercian whistle blower Edward Snowden’s revelations, Max Schrems raised the objections for Facebook handling the user data. Due to his effort, the International Safe Harbor Privacy Principles agreement was renamed as the EU-US Privacy Shield. Still, the lawyer-activist is in no mood to bow down. And finally, his steadfast effort gave the people of Europen union a historic judgement in favour of their privacy.
