Kallakurichi Violence, Rajinikanth Vindicated

Editorial: Kallakurichi Violence, Rajinikanth Vindicated

The latest happening in Kallakurichi—mysterious death of a 12th standard school girl and the violence thereafter clearly indicated the ‘hands’ of ‘anti-social’ elements. During May 2018, when the large-scale violence broke out in Tuticorin against the Sterlite Corporation, Rajinikanth told the violence could be the result of anti-social elements. Everyone, including the current DMK members, strongly opposed Rajini’s remarks. Even they went such an extent to use filthy language about the actor. Finally, the recent incident in Kallakurichi where tens of vehicles burnt and entire school building set aflame and lakhs of worth of public properties destroyed and looted. Apart from this, the Kallakurichi violence also exposed the inability of DMK. Like its bedridden leader, Stalin (due to Covid), the entire administrative apparatus, police and ministers were simply absent from the public view. The worst part is the absence of Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Minister for School Education. The incidence was a wake call to the sleeping DMK Government.
