Trump signs executive order on social media
15 hours ago
United States President Donald Trump signed on Thursday an executive order on social media companies to enable holding them accountable for content posted by their users, claiming he will pursue legislation in addition to the order. He asserted that tech giants have "unchecked power," adding those companies are "tantamount to a monopoly" and the order aims to take "liability shield" away from them.
As it was reported earlier today, Trump aims to "remove or change" Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act that used to guard tech companies such as Twitter and Facebook from lawsuits over posts published on their platforms.
Previously, Trump blasted Twitter for the social network's alleged affinitive political policy, claiming that "Big Tech is doing everything in their very considerable power to CENSOR in advance of the 2020 Election." Despite the criticism coming from the White House, Twitter said it will carry on with fact-checking posts on its platform.
