Hundreds o f Patents filed by a single man in the Blockchain Space
Have you ever imagined, a man Craig Wright, claiming himself as ‘Satoshi’ – the fabled publisher of Bitcoin White paper had already filed 666 patents in this space. Mostly connected to various titles in virtual currency, and his company NChain Holdings was recently in the news for the company that filed most number of patents in the emerging Blockchain domain.
The Nchain’s patents can be found in different countries like U.K, U.S., Japan and china. From Blockchain counting system and a method of secure voting, an operating system for blockchain-based Internet-of-Things 9IoT), and an agent-based Turing complete feedback system built within a blockchain network – they filed everything. These titles instantly appear while we search for blockchain based patents.
However, many crypto users are vehemently opposing the idea of patents within the crypto currency world, which is always supported by the open source projects. The likes of Visa, Mastercard, Bank of America and Nchain have filed patents applications in almost all aspects of the Blockchain. According to them, it’s a strategic move to threaten the developers and startups of crypto world. They also say, we should stop patent-hungry large corporation from stealing the prior art. And most of the Bitcoin aficionados sincerely believe Bitcoin is the prior art established to create a non-legacy institutions in the open source way and that cannot be patented. As long as it’s disputed and defeated in the court of law, these heavy weights won’t stop filing more and more patents.
