The Complutense University of Madrid holds a conference to show journalists the new funding possibilities offered by blockchain.
The applications of blockchain to facilitate the work of journalists are being debated today at the Faculty of Journalism in the Complutense University of Madrid. The workshop, which takes place at noon, shows students how the blockchain can change their profession. They will also be able to take their first steps on some of the existing platforms.
Blockchain for journalists
Blockchain brings new job opportunities in journalism and in the way of practicing the profession. Today, there are already several companies working to change the business model. The PUBLIQ platform allows content creators to directly manage their media. This platform remunerates authors with its PBQ token, depending on the interest that the information arouses in the readers. You can join its English-speaking Telegram group here.
Students will also learn about the Brave browser, which blocks online ads and crawlers while rewarding creators with their BAT (Basic Attention Token) token. There is also the decentralised video platform Flixxo, which combines blockchain technology with BitTorrent. This platform rewards creators and viewers with its Flixx token.
Contents of the workshop
The workshop, organized by Blockchain Media, will have a theoretical section and a practical one. Its director, Covadonga Fernández, will explain the changes in the profession from the irruption of the Internet in the nineties to the model of decentralized journalism set up by blockchain. Next, Javier Callejo, journalist and professor of Sociology at the UNED, will speak blockchain as a new phase in the development of the economy of attention. Finally, Álvaro Cobarro, also a journalist and founder of Bitcobie, will explain how Brave, PUBLIQ and Flixxo work.
The meeting will be held in the Blue Room of the Faculty of Journalism at the Complutense University. The initiative is part of a Blockchain Media project to raise awareness of blockchain applications in the field of communication and journalism.
The first meeting, called "Red Universitaria de Blockchain, Comunicación y Periodismo (RUBCP)", took place in April in the Faculty of Journalism of the University of Castilla La Mancha. Later on, similar meetings will be held in similar universities in England, Valencia, Seville and the Basque Country.
