Editorial: Ethics and Morality of the Truthful media in the A.I. driven World
The Roshomon (1950) of the legendary Akira Kurasawa talks about how our perception distorts reality and in some instance, the absolute truth is unknowable through its three central characters who give testimony about a rape and murder. And all the three accounts differ from one another. Keeping the viewers as judge, these characters speak. We, as an audience, baffled to view their retelling of the gruesome event. The same thing is happening right now, in front of us. On various occasions, we have been misinformed with fabricated facts, biased opinion and untruthful statistics. To grab the breaking news first, the media are frantically running amok. The result is wrong news headlines, misinformation filled news features and stories that are filled with half-cooked data. This is bad for journalism. On the one hand, the news media is struggling with the onslaught of A.I. generated social media ‘fake news.’ And on the other hand, the news media are reducing its budget. Above all plenty of PR (Public Relations) sponsored ‘PAID News’ takes the front pages of the news publications.
In this kind of extremely complicated situation, the decentralized, censorship-resistant, Blockchain-based media like SLOG gives immense hope. Here, there is no hurry. Even if some wrong news appears, it can be peer reviewed and informed to the public. In the meantime, the publishers simply can’t erase its content. If they edit, then the original and edited content will be archived. Considering all these kinds of salient features, the future of media looks brighter in the crypto world. The freelancers, passionate content creators can make decent money for their effort. And the consumers will always get an error-free content. In this way, the Blockchain Tech ensures the ethics and morality of the media will be preserved.
