If you know anything about financial markets you’ll know there’s a give and take to everything. There is always someone on the other side of your trade either taking your money, or giving theirs away.
What most people don’t realize is this supply and demand concept and game theory exists everywhere on the internet.
There is always a give and a take. Algorithms can only promote so much content. If you flip the algos in your favor it means someone else isn’t getting engagement.
You can sense this subconscious sentiment on crypto twitter when newcomers get hate. When someone sees a younger person come into the space and do better they don’t like it.
If you’re getting more engagement and growing your audience faster than someone (without scamming) then simply put: you’re doing better.
It’s only natural for people to be defensive of what they see as their property.
There is a hierarchy everywhere you go but these power structures can topple.
Dinosaurs go extinct.
Things change.
People don’t like change.
Really what would be best for the good of the space (and ironically, for their own engagement) would be to support these newcomers.
CryptoFinally for instance has soared to success on CryptoTwitter and received an immense amount of hate for her style of content and subsequent success.
She is now going on MTV to talk about crypto. That is HUGE.
People should be celebrating!
The problem is most people are in the space just for themselves and to make money. The original ethos behind Bitcoin is in a power struggle, but it is such a resilient idea it will never die.
We’re going to see turbulent change this decade in general, let alone the internet and crypto space.
But again, for there to be success and change the wheat needs to be separated from the chaff. It’s a painfully slow process like picking off a scab.
Plenty of crypto projects are dying and will continue to die.
Plenty of ‘influencers’ who were full of BS are starting to lose their engagement and die off.
This is natural and needed.
It is cruel and ugly.
When people have something at risk (which they consider their property) they are going to get angry and seek someone to blame.
Social media engagement is the new gold rush. If you can get a solid audience and keep pumping out engaging content you can really make it.
I personally am very excited for the future of crypto and the internet!
