An Inconvenient Truth – A spellbinding show on global war
“Ultimately this is really not a political issue...so much as a moral issue. If we allow that to happen…it is deeply unethical.”
- Al Gore on Global Warming
“One of the most realistic documentaries I've ever seen--and, dry as it is, one of the most devastating in its implications.”
- David Edelstein
New York Magazine
Based on the former American Vice President Al Gore’s celebrated slide show on environment, this is a rousing documentary film. Television producer-director Davis Guggenheim stormed into the big screen through this well-regarded documentary. To create awareness about the distressing global warming issue, Al Gore had given nearly 1000 slide shows across the globe. Combining several Al Gore’s slide shows with archival footages and news clippings, the filmmaker effectively conveys the message.
Entering the podium with applause, the born speaker, starts his eloquence with solid data collected from the countless number of authentic sources. Atmospheric temperature has been rising drastically since the Civil War. According to him “the ten hottest years on record have occurred in the last 14 years.” Citing the appropriate news clippings and simulated maps, Al Gore highlights the frequency and intensity of hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones. Alarmingly receding Arctic ice caps to devastatingly melting Antarctic ice shields – the slide show provides irrefutable data on our pathetic condition.
Another potential danger is the rising sea levels and its destructive impact on our eco system – Al Gore warns. According to him, the population rise is another important factor that leads to the destruction of vulnerable natural resources. Dejectedly referring to the frightening disappearing rate of our planet’s species, flora and fauna, he bells warning signal loudly. Frankly, he lambastes his own country, America for its failure in adopting clean and green technologies as well as not signing the Kyoto Protocol. Irresponsible Automobile companies to money-driven Petroleum lobby, Al Gore makes valid arguments against their carelessness.
Besides indicating the perils, he gives possible solutions like using renewable energy techniques to the man-made global warming problems. Stating “Each one of us is a cause of global warming. But each of us can make choices to change that,” he concludes the show with an emotional appeal.
This is the very first documentary that won 2 Oscars. 50,000 copies of the film were given away to teachers in the US via the participate.net website between 18 Dec. 2006 and 18 Jan 2007.
“NativeEnergy, which works with individuals and organizations to help them compensate for their contributions to global warming, calculated the "carbon footprint" from producing the film, including all travel, office, and accommodations related emissions”
This is the first carbon-neutral documentary. Even the DVD case, in which the film is packaged, is made from 100% recycled cardboard.
“Virtually everyone who sees this movie will be galvanized to do something about global warming -- and everyone should see this movie.”
-Mick LaSalle
San Francisco Chronicle
Flawlessly composed, convincingly argued and expertly presented, Al Gore’s riveting documentary is an eminently thought provoking film.
